With fireplaces revived and skirting and picture rails carried through the rooms, the property retains its period character. The kitchen renovation, featuring Hambleton Grey tiles, brings a clean, fresh, and low-maintenance heart to the home, perfect for family life.
What is the history of your property?
The property was built in 1923 and was lived in by the same owner for 70 years. The next occupants lived here for 30 years and we bought the house in 2023.
When did your project start and how long has it taken?
The project started 1 year ago. The majority of the building work was completed after 8-9 months. We did all the decorating ourselves and still have a few bits to complete.
Is this your first renovation project?
No, we have both owned and renovated properties in the past. Matt renovated a house that need new electrics, plumbing and redecorating throughout. Lara renovated a 1-bedroom flat, creating an open plan living space.
What styles did you want to see in your renovation?
We wanted to keep the style quite classic. We revived a couple of fireplaces and have carried the skirting and picture rails through most of the house.
Why did you choose the Hambleton Grey tiles?
We liked the idea of stone tiles, but we wanted something that was easier to maintain as we have a 10-month old baby. We loved the colour and texture of the Hambleton tile and thought the colour went well with our kitchen.
Why did you choose Quorn Stone for your tiles?
We loved the Quorn Stone showroom. The way the tiles are laid out makes it really easy to imagine how they will look in your space. We thought the tiles were good value for money and looked high quality.
What is your must have gadget in your renovated area?
The wine fridge!
What is your favourite interior piece and why?
The kitchen island keeps the space really social and is also practical for food preparation.
What was the best bargain find during your project?
Our dining room table – it’s actually an outdoor table but we feel it really works with our style.
Are you planning on any future projects?
Not for a long time! We need to finish a few more bits here and then just enjoy living here.
