Set in the tranquil countryside, Diane’s 200-year-old Ironstone farmhouse is steeped in history, having previously been a working farm owned by her in-laws. Full of rustic charm and character, the property celebrates its heritage through her latest project, which spans the kitchen, hallway, and bathroom. Featuring Dijon Blend Limestone tiles throughout, the spaces are inspired by classic French style and highlight the farmhouse’s timeless features.

When did your project start and how long has it taken?
September 2021 start date. Interior is almost finished Garden is an ongoing project!
What is the history of the property?
The property was once 2 cottages, probably built approximately 200 years ago for ironstone quarry workers. In more recent times it was a working farm owned by my mother and father-in-law.

What styles did you want to see in your renovation?
I was keen for the renovation to be rustic yet modern. I wanted to create a combination of large open spaces and cosy enclosed rooms. I used lots of green tones to mirror the land beyond the windows. I have also incorporated French influence, particularly in the bedrooms and there are numerous pieces of French furniture throughout the property.
Why in particular did you choose Dijon Blend limestone?
I had used Dijon limestone in our last property and loved the light, airy feel they gave to the room. The appearance is contemporary, but the tumbled edges add rustic authenticity. Why did you choose Quorn Stone for your tiles?
Excellent prices and customer service.

What is your must have gadget in your renovated area?
Not really a gadget but my Everhot range cooker. In a large space with lots of glass, it provides a constant warmth and homely feeling in the kitchen.
What is your favourite interior piece and why?
I love my French spice jars. The colours work so well in our kitchen. I'd been searching in the UK for a reasonably priced set but without success. Ours were found whilst on holiday in France at a 'vide-grenier' sale in a little village and were an absolute steal!

What was the best bargain find during your project?
Our French reproduction provincial bedroom furniture found on eBay and Marketplace.
What was the most difficult part of your renovation process?
Living for a year in a static caravan on site whilst the house was ripped apart.
Where do you like to shop for interior pieces?
Everywhere! Small, independent interior shops, antique centres and bricante markets in France.

What three words would you use to summarise your style?
Homely, modern, sympathetic
