Step Inside Alex's Barn Conversion with Hambleton Beige

By Isabel Fernandez

May 8, 2026

Located in a picturesque village in North Yorkshire, this traditional stone barn conversion is part of a beautifully restored collection of former agricultural buildings. Set within the rural countryside, the property combines historic charm with contemporary living. The latest project, a modern country-style kitchen, features Hambleton Beige porcelain tiles, creating a kitchen that blends rustic charm with a warm, modern country feel.

What is the history of your property?

Completed in the early 2000s as part of a site redevelopment, the property was designed as a sympathetic barn conversion, echoing the character of the original 17th-century farmstead. Built with locally sourced stone and traditional detailing, it blends the charm of a historic rural building with the comfort and quality of a modern home.

When did your project start and how long has it taken?

Planning for the project started in January 2025, with work starting to remove the old kitchen in May and concluding 10 weeks later at the end of July.

What styles did you want to see in your renovation?

We wanted a modern country look - something warm, natural, and timeless. The mix of oak, shaker-style cabinetry, and clean modern finishes gave us a kitchen that feels both classic and contemporary.

Why in particular did you choose Hambleton Beige?

We chose these tiles because they have the look and character of real stone - especially with the tumbled edges but with all the practicality of porcelain. They bring warmth and texture to the kitchen while being durable, easy to clean, and perfect for everyday use with children and dogs.

Why did you choose Quorn Stone for your tiles?

We chose Quorn Stone because their tiles have a natural, timeless look and great quality. They offered exactly the style we wanted, and the whole process was really straightforward.

How did you discover Quorn Stone?

We first discovered Quorn Stone online and through social media, where we were really drawn to the quality of the projects, and subsequently the samples received.

What is your must have gadget in your renovated area?

Our must-have gadget is the hidden wine fridge behind a false drawer front - it keeps the kitchen clean and practical, while making sure chilled bottles are always on hand!

What is your favourite interior piece and why?

Our favourite interior piece is the kitchen island. It brings the whole space together both visually and practically. It’s where we cook, chat, entertain, and spend most of our time, so it really feels like the heart of the home.

What was the best bargain find during your project?

We sourced our kitchen stools from a local company based in Yorkshire - they are very comfortable, and the chunky seat and natural grain gives them a real country feel.

Where do you like to shop for interior pieces?

We try to shop locally where we can, but some of our favourite pieces are things we’ve picked up on holidays and travels. They’re unique, full of character, and remind us of the places we’ve been.

What three words would you use to summarise your style?

Modern, natural, classic.
