“This is our 3rd home renovation, as well as running our business @oakland_developments, so we have learnt a lot through the years on renovating properties! But because my husband is the builder, we are at the bottom of his priority list and any renovating we do takes slightly longer! When we first purchased the farmhouse, the kitchen itself was very outdated with an old slate floor that turned out to be the most difficult part of the renovation, as it was very tricky to remove.”
"Now a finished space, we are so happy with our country farmhouse kitchen, blending a mix of traditional and modern features. When sourcing the stone floor, I was recommended by a friend to visit the Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk tile showroom and fell in love with the Clermont Gris lightly tumbled limestone! The kitchen was designed with a farmhouse vintage style; aged brass, traditional taps, hardware, and a reclaimed island, so we wanted an ‘aged’ natural stone which is why this limestone was perfect for our project!”
The use of natural materials and textures, such as the wooden island, the rattan pendants and storage baskets, all work effortlessly in combination to the rustic look of the Clermont Gris limestone flooring. The tumbled edge gives a worn appearance, with the textured surface of each tile making it a forgiving floor covering, as well as lending itself to the country farmhouse look.
A space Jo is proud of, her favourite thing to do in their new kitchen is cook for her family and friends with her new electric Aga, “I love the Aga - not only for the cooking experience, but also the warmth it provides in the kitchen and the whole of our downstairs!”
