Set in a peaceful rural spot on the border of Staffordshire and Shropshire, this home is steeped in history. Once the village post office, it dates back to the 1500s and is now owned by Laura and her family, first-time renovators who have transformed it into a warm and characterful English style cottage featuring our Sorrento Aged Tumbled Limestone Tiles.

The project began in April 2021 and since then, they’ve been gradually completing each space, layering the home with antique finds, lived-in textures, and timeless materials. In the kitchen, downstairs bathroom, utility and boot room, the limestone flooring instantly felt as though it had always belonged there.
What drew you to the property?
I’ve always loved period homes, and this one had such a unique history. The fact that it was the village’s old post office made it even more special. It felt full of stories, and we wanted to honour that in the renovation.

I wanted the style to be as classic and timeless as possible. We leaned into an English cottage look, using lots of antique pieces to create a space that feels authentic and full of character. Every choice was made with the age of the house in mind. I wanted it to feel like each feature had always been there.

Why did you choose these tiles?
We instantly fell in love with the rustic texture and earthy tone of the Sorrento Limestone Tiles. The colour felt timeless, as if they’d been part of the home for years and it set the tone for the rest of the décor. They have an aged, lived-in quality that brings warmth and makes the space feel grounded.
What made you choose Quorn Stone?
We were looking for high-quality, authentic stone. A lot of what we saw elsewhere felt too polished or modern, but Quorn Stone’s tiles have a lasting quality that suits period properties perfectly, while being practical for everyday family life.

How did you find us?
Through Instagram. I loved seeing real homes and how the tiles looked in different settings as it made it easier to visualise them in our own space.
What was the biggest challenge during the renovation?
Waiting for planning permission was tough, but we also took on a lot of the work ourselves. There were many late nights stripping the house back to brick, covered in dust! It was exhausting, but so worth it in the end.

Do you have a favourite feature in the finished home?
Our Lacanche oven is a standout feature in our Kitchen. It looks beautiful and is amazing to cook with. I also love all the antique pieces I’ve collected over the years from brocante markets and antique stalls; they give the rooms so much personality.

What’s next for the house?
We’ve just had our patio laid using the Montpellier Sable Tumbled Porcelain Paving and have big plans for the garden over the next year. I’m excited to create an outdoor space that feels just as considered as the inside.
What three words sum up your style?
Cottagecore, timeless, rustic.
