Step Inside a Modern Country Kitchen with Wood Effect Tiles

Set within the leafy suburbs of South Bucks on the border of the Chiltern Hills, is home to James, Pernille and their family. Located at the edge of a popular commuter’s town with easy access to Central London, they have found a perfect balance of being close to woodlands and fields for nearby walks, whilst also having the rich history of an old town with local restaurants and high street boutiques. Having purchased the property 10 years ago as a rental investment, they decided to renovate the house in 2020 to become their own family home.

As a new build constructed in the last 15 years, James wanted to ‘age’ the home with a modern country feel, leaning to Danish styles; “my wife who is Danish brings her timeless and natural tones to all areas, I always play a supporting role to Pernille who has a great knack of combining Scandi and English classic!”.

“The heart of the renovation centred around a new kitchen and utility room, and we were determined to find a high quality, bespoke solution using local craftsmen. We chose a country classic, shaker style look with a large island and a design that displayed high quality cabinetry and disguised kitchen appliances as discreetly and practically as possible! All the cabinets were handmade locally by Goodwood Interiors.”

“When we bought the property, it had white gloss floor tiles which we wanted to replace with a beautifully rustic wood effect porcelain tile. We loved the Quorn Stone range and seeing the Henbury Antique Oak in their tile shop near St Albans, a beautiful, converted barn, made a fun buying experience!”

“We opted for Farrow & Ball ‘Pigeon’ for the kitchen cabinetry and ‘Studio Green’ for the island. Worktops are Caesarstone (White Attica) and lighting supplied by the highly professional Jim Lawrence Lighting. Kitchen chairs were supplied by Neptune. Wall colour is ‘School House White’ in the kitchen to enhance the natural feel of the refurbishment.”
