Possibly the best part of our role at Quorn Stone, is receiving photos of finished projects. Some of our projects are months in the making and it is truly lovely to share the joy of a finished project with a customer!
After being tagged by @homeonthegrove (Emma) on her latest Instagram posts, we instantly knew we would love to shoot her project. The beautiful Tiverton White Pearl pavers work perfectly alongside the unique cedar cladding, and Emma's gorgeous garden styling sets off the patio perfectly.
Once discussing all things reno, we set a date for the shoot and luckily the weather was on our side! We couldn’t wait to share her inspiring story with you, so for this week’s feature, we wanted to let Emma take over and tell you a bit more about herself and her renovation journey at her home on the grove.
All 'Customer project' photos are taken by Emma and are featured on her Instagram account @homeonthegrove.
Tell us a little bit about the area of your home…
We live in a lovely village – there is always plenty going on, good shops and some fantastic nature walks. We’ve got a really good spot! It’s not too far from the city, which is only a 20-minute drive, but equally close to countryside with lots of lovely farm shops.
What was the driving force behind the renovation?
We did a house extension in 2017-8 and as a result the orientation and location of our exterior doors and patio area had to significantly change. With a brand-new open plan living space with sliding doors to outside – we then needed a beautiful patio area to match and seamlessly flow to the outside garden.
Why did you choose a porcelain floor for your renovated area?
We knew porcelain had good stain resistance which was important as we have a lot of deciduous trees in the garden. We also had a look at many different materials and each time, porcelain came out as the material we preferred.
What type of style did you want to achieve for your home/outside space?
The main thing for us was to keep the style classic and sympathetic to the period age of the house during our extension and renovations. However, we did want to add a touch of modern to the outside area and we felt we did this with materials such as cedar cladding and the porcelain pavers.
Why in particular did you choose the Tiverton White Pearl tiles?
We wanted a seamless flow inside to outside. We chose a timeless, pale décor scheme inside with white oiled wood flooring - so we wanted a patio to also be light and almost feel like an extension of space. As our house extension faces northeast, the light pavers also bounce a lot of light back into the house which really helps.
What do you enjoy most about being outside?
The patio is a lunchtime suntrap and protected from the wind. I love sitting there in summer with an Iced coffee. It’s so peaceful and honest feels like I could be on holiday in my own back garden! We also included uplighters within the patio so in the evening it is a really ambient place to sit and relax. I would really recommend thinking about lighting in your patio planning at the start and not as an afterthought as it’s so important.
What is your favourite garden accessory and why?
It would have to be our grey string garden seats. We always get so many compliments on them! I feel they complement the pavers and cladding really well.
Thank you to Emma for letting us visit your home on the grove, we loved photographing your project and good luck with your future renovations!
