Want to save lots of money when buying your stone tiles? The first rule is to make sure you buy your stone tiles from a natural stone specialist; a company that imports their own stones, can show you their stock in a warehouse and offers good quality advice that can only be gained from years in the trade.

The best way to get big discounts is the age-old buy in bulk! If you are building your own house or converting your own barn then the likeliness is you have quite a lot of floor coverings to deal with. If you choose one stone, one size and one finish the chances are that you are more likely to get a bigger discount than if you pick many different stones, in different sizes and finishes. Why I hear you ask! Well, the more efficient a manufacturing process is, the lower the costs it will incur; a basic economic principle which can be applied to most aspects of life.

Lets take a look at a case study. In 2013 Mr Mitchell was working on a development consisting of 6 barn conversions in Great Dalby, Leicestershire. I believe one of the properties has only just been completed and can be viewed here… http://www.zoopla.co.uk/new-homes/details/29386861

As a developer he had two main requirements. The first was that the stone be of a light and attractive colour as this stone was to be used in multiple rooms. The second requirement was that the stone must be of high quality but at a considerate price. Mr Mitchell needed almost 700m2 so I set about looking for the best deal I could offer. It was clear to me that the product did not necessarily need to be an item we stock regularly and I got in touch with all my suppliers to see if I could track down a suitable product surplus to a large order. When you have been importing natural stone for close to 20 years you build very strong relationships with suppliers giving you access to offers that most wouldn’t have.

A few options did surface including the Mediterranean Cream Limestone with a honed finish. It turned out my supplier had big stocks of this stone in marginally varying tones of cream which were even identified and split into separate crates. This stone was left over from a 40,000m2 project in Panama. As we were dealing with one stone, one size and one finish we were able to offer Mr Mitchell an incredibly attractive price delivered straight to site.

We always have lots of buy-in-bulk options available that aren’t listed on our website. If you’d like to have a chat about your project and see how you can save yourself money then please feel free to give me a call on 01509 416557.
