Autumn is possibly one of my favourite times of the year - crisp, sunny morning walks, vibrant gold, and orange leaves and cosy nights by the log burner are a few of the simple seasonal joys! Autumn is also an opportunity to embrace home comforts with beautiful interior pieces to suit the time of year. To enjoy the season, I’ve selected five interior edits on my wish list that will certainly bring a feeling of Autumn in the home.
1. Throws and blankets
A cosy night by the log burner is not complete without a hot drink in hand and a throw or blanket on the sofa! Throws offer warmth and comfort and I particularly love the new ‘Kersey’ throw by Neptune – perfect for those evenings staying in. This stunning knitted piece made in the UK is a deep damson tone and made from the finest quality lambswool and merino for a truly luxurious feel. Shop yours here.
2. Dried flowers
There is something about the everlasting beauty of dried flowers - and this year I have definitely noticed them appear in more homes and interiors! With Summer blooms finished, dried flowers are the perfect way to keep flowers in your home all Autumn and Winter. They also offer a certain warmth with stunning textures and rich shades. Hudson Home have a beautiful range of real dried flowers and stems, including their ‘Wild Autumn Arrangement’ photographed above.
Autumn in the home wouldn’t be complete without candles! Bringing lovely aromas and a cosy glow to a dull day or a cold evening - I love having candles lit around the home this time of year. The White Company have a range of classic scents with their ‘Autumn’ candle being particularly seasonal. The candle is described as ‘A gloriously bright and fruity scent inspired by afternoons spent picking fruits from the orchard beneath the dappled sunlight. The combination of crisp pear, quince and apricot blends with warming musk and amber for a rich, welcoming fragrance that marks the change in season.’
4. Home baking
Autumn is all about slowing down and embracing a ‘hygge’ lifestyle - for me, part of this involves a little home baking. The scent of freshly baked goods drifting from the kitchen and an enjoyment of taking time to sit down with tea and cake for a moment’s peace. This recipe by Waitrose Food is on my list to try; a take on the traditional pumpkin pie with a twist of delicious walnut and cinnamon crunch.
If you’re a keen home baker who finds joy in new baking ware, then you will also love Anthropologie's collection. The ‘Glenna’ cake stand crafted in Italy has made it onto my interior edit wish list and is perfect for serving those seasonal home bakes!
5. Pumpkins around the home
Fifthly, but by no means least, a few pumpkins around the home are a must for Autumn. Whilst pumpkins are often associated with Halloween, pumpkins, squashes, and gourds are wonderful seasonal produce with such a variety in colours, shapes and even tastes! I’d love to grow some of my own one year, but many florists, farm shops and local supermarkets often have them available to buy. I’ve taken particular inspiration this year from this rustic take on a pumpkin dining table centrepiece.
I hope you’ve enjoyed the read and feel inspired to truly bring Autumn in the home for the coming months ahead.
