High Summer in England brings us hot, sun-drenched days (mixed in with a few cloudy ones!), and a sure way to cherish this time of year is to make the most of Alfresco outdoor dining. With an English Summer that has soared in temperatures and given us an abundance of sunshine, we thought we’d bring you something a little different with inspiration for your own Alfresco Summer dining plans!
Make It Poolside
Those fortunate enough to have a swimming pool in the UK are forever grateful when a Summer heatwave hits! A swimming pool is the perfect way to cool down and to make the most of your garden space, enjoying poolside lunches followed by an afternoon dip for a true holiday at home – simply bliss. The Clermont Gris aged tumbled limestone pavers sit beautifully in this country garden with their grey tones and rustic finish.
Timeless Garden Furniture
A vital part of outdoor living is having the right setup to relax and spend those lazy afternoons. When it comes to timeless design and garden furniture, Neptune Home is the place to go. Their range of outdoor furniture offers something for everyone, from classic rattan dining sets, rustic wooden benches to clean-lined metal bistro tables and chairs. Our chosen collection is the ‘Hayburn’ with options of a relaxed sofa, love seat or armchair to suit your space.
We believe Summer is a chance to embrace colour and prints – think the vivid hues of an Italian coastline or the beautiful patterns of Morocco. OKA’s collection of tableware truly encapsulates this love for Summer print and pattern with plates, bowls, glasses and so much more on offer to grace your alfresco dining tablescape. The Isphahan set of 4 porcelain plates are inspired by ancient Persian designs, with Persian artisans usually decorating in white and blue. Whilst the intricate set of 4 twisted glass tumblers are “smart enough for special occasions, but they are also robust enough for everyday use”. Try mismatching your crockery and glassware for a truly decorative and colourful table setting.
Magical Evening Tablescapes
On the topic of table settings, for those extra-special outdoor gatherings why not have fun creating a fairy-tale tablescape – with the glow of the sun setting, candles lit and the soft, cool breeze, there is something enchanting about Summer nights! We fell completely in love with this magical evening tablescape by Susie Watson Designs with creative ideas for our own alfresco evening dining. A few of our favourite pieces are the hand-painted dinner candles, the pale rose cambridge stripe tablecloth and the summer green milka large cushion to layer, for a truly comfortable and magical evening with loved ones.
Under A Canopy
When balmy sunny days are upon us, a little shade is definitely needed! Whether it’s a parasol, pergola or even a tree, there is something tranquil about an afternoon sat in the shade with a cold drink, a spot of food and a good book. House & Garden have a lovely feature on outdoor dining area ideas for Summer living providing plenty of inspiration. We particularly love the look of a tree canopy, with its lush and leafy appearance. Below right, “four Tilia henryana trees planted were pleached so that they form a pretty, leafy canopy. Although the trees do not provide cover from rain, they do provide a shady spot for dining.”
