Bathroom Tile Inspiration
After helping hundreds of customers choose their dream tiles, we decided it was time to give our own home a little love and gutted our main bathroom for a well-deserved refresh! Bathrooms are notoriously tricky rooms to ‘get right’ – they need to strike the perfect balance of both beauty and practicality which isn’t always easy to achieve.
It is a process that many of our customers go through in the showroom and there are numerous factors to consider such as the size of the room, amount of natural light as well as the functional aspects. We spent a lot of time gathering inspiration online and in magazines – creating mood boards with pictures and samples is a great way to ensure all your choices will work together!
Our bathroom isn’t the biggest nor flooded with natural light, so we decided to keep everything bright and airy. We wanted the bathroom to be a classic design that wouldn’t feel dated in a few years’ time, so we made all decisions based on the above criteria.
First stop was deciding the furniture – due to our limited space we enlisted the help of a local carpenter who designed these modern shaker style units to house all our necessities! We wanted to have a little fun on the main vanity unity and opted for the Farrow and Ball “De Nimes” – we absolutely love it and think this would also make a gorgeous kitchen island colour!
Next was the tiles – now, you may think owning a tile company would mean you would know exactly what tiles you would choose for your own home – wrong! We knew we wanted to break the space up with a combination of tiles that offered different colours and textures but we struggled to whittle it down – too many lovely options! In the end we opted for the following….
Shower Wall Tiles – Siena Calacatta Oro Polished Porcelain 600 x 600
‘Calacatta’ marble has been used for centuries and is a timeless stone. In order to keep things maintenance free, we opted for our porcelain marble effect which we have used in conjunction with our stain proof resin grout. TIP – A polished finish will reflect the light and bounce it around the room.
Floor Tiles – Appledore Limewash Oak Porcelain 1200 x 200
Whilst we wanted to keep the bathroom light and airy, we also wanted to incorporate some warmth through the floor tiles. The Appledore Limewash Oak is a beautiful light wood effect tile with a subtle and realistic wood print. It works really well against the browny/gold tones of the Calacatta Oro and ties everything together. TIP – This wood effect has a slightly ridged texture which emulates the feel of a wooden plank and offers slip resistance!
Splashback Tiles – Primrose Smoke Gloss Metro 75 x 300
We wanted to incorporate another glossy wall tile for the splashback but didn’t want a matching look to the shower tiles! Our new Primrose collection was the perfect solution and the pastel colour palette is soft enough to work with many colour schemes! In the end we settled for the colour ‘Smoke’ – such a gorgeous and versatile colour. TIP – Take time when considering grout colours as this will dictate how much your tile colour ‘pops’.
So, there we have it! Whilst the ‘main’ jobs have been done, there seems to be an endless list of little jobs to do before it will be fully finished! Next on the list is wall art – wish me luck!
