Pinatubo Grey Limestone Tiles… A beautiful soft grey, brushed limestone flooring
Greys are in, there is no denying it. There has always been a demand for grey stone and our Dijon limestone has always been a popular choice when a soft, subtle grey is required. However, with changing fashions we found that many of our customers wanted something a little stronger, a little bolder and a little more grey!
We began importing the Pinatubo Grey Limestone just over 2 years ago. We were the first importers of this Grey limestone and decided to name it after Mt. Pinatubo; an active Volcano I had recently trekked in the Philippines. Mt. Pinatubo erupted in 1991, producing the second largest terrestrial eruption of the 20th century after the 1912 eruption of Novarupta in the Alaska Peninsula. The landscape I encountered was very dramatic and straight out of an Apolocapytic scene with miles of plains surrounding the Volcano covered in dark ash. When looking at the Pinatubo Grey Limestone I couldn’t help but notice the same greyish tones I saw in the Philippines (albeit some are lighter). In particular the occasional subtle veining of the stone reminded me of the swirling patterns left in the ash from the surrounding flowing water from the mountains.
As you ascend to the top of Mt. Pinatubo the landscape begins to change into sub-tropical and opens out to a breath taking crater complete with thermal lake
So that’s how the Pinatubo Grey Limestone got its name! I think you’ll agree though it looks fantastic in situ with the gentle grey tonal variation offering a nice, even representation of natural variation when laid by a professional installer.
